2025 06 06 – A Day in the Life

“Space Oddity” is a song written and performed by David Bowie and released as a music single in 1969. It is about the launch of Major Tom, a fictional astronaut; its title alludes to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, released the previous year. The lyrics have also been seen to lampoon the failed British space programme. The song appears on the album David Bowie (also known as Space Oddity). The BBC featured the song in its television coverage of the Apollo 11 launch and lunar landing, which took place in the days following the release of the song.

What a nice find on the Utubs. I was a whole 5 years old when this was performed so it’s quite the pleasant experience some almost 60 years later. Speaking to that fact, it’s funny for me to blurt out lyrics to a song I’ve heard umpteengazzion times and find out the person I’m working with has either never heard it and for the most part wasn’t alive when it was first given to public consumption. It’s funny getting older. Getting older was something I never expected to be since our motto years ago is/was “die young and look good at your funeral.” Abet, you attend enough funerals and you realize the real goal is to be so old the dust is already forming around your ancient corpse. 😉
